Rauora Park free family fun day this Sunday

January 2018

It’s Rauora Park to the rescue for those looking for ways to entertain the kids at the tail end of the school holidays, with a range of free family-friendly activities on offer in Christchurch’s newest park this Sunday.

“Spanning five blocks, Rauora Park is a significant new green space in the central city and we want people to get to know it and enjoy it,” says Ōtākaro Limited Chief Executive Albert Brantley.

“So, come grab a free sausage and a spot on the grass and watch the kids wear themselves out playing basketball with the Canterbury Rams, flying kites, taking part in a Les Mills class in the park or getting their faces painted.”

The Fire Service and Police will also be providing activities in the park throughout the event, which will run from 10am to 1pm.

The 660-metre long park sits between Manchester and Madras Streets and is bookended by the Innovation Precinct to the South and Margaret Mahy Family Playground to the North.

“For those looking to take a more leisurely approach, there will be tours that explain the park’s design. People will be able to find out more about the East Frame housing developments, and see some of the interesting archaeological finds made during construction,” says Mr Brantley.

Gap Filler’s Good Spot car park is located on the corner of Manchester and Lichfield streets. A Wilson car park is accessible from Hereford St. Rauora Park is just a short walk from the Bus Interchange.
